Something made to hold has already held so much.
A slow-stitched drawstring bag.
The Ground Keeper begins with layers.
Soft cloth. A finer translucent cloth laid over it. Loose threads and fibres held somewhere between.
Simple running stitches gradually travel across the surface, joining the layers while leaving their own marks. Some things remain visible. Others soften, disappear or show through only in places.
No stitched design to copy and no finished surface to reproduce.
The cloth is allowed to gather slowly before it becomes something useful.
What begins as layered ground gradually becomes a small drawstring Keeper.
What the ground keeps
Ground is never empty.
It carries what came before: roots, old growth, fallen material, traces that may no longer be visible at the surface.
Stitched cloth behaves similarly. Threads cross. Fibres settle beneath translucent muslin. Marks accumulate. Some remain obvious; others become part of the whole.
One layer does not erase another.
The handbook
The Ground Keeper handbook takes you from preparing and layering your cloth through slow stitching, accumulation, and open ground, then moves into constructing the finished drawstring bag.
It includes guidance on cloth, threads, and fibres; simple running stitch; working with translucent layers; measurements in centimetres and inches; illustrated construction diagrams; and practical Keeper Notes.
No prior slow-stitching experience is needed. The final construction uses a few straightforward sewing techniques and can be approached by machine or by hand using your preferred method.
